We head back to the east coast with our first Ivy League on the list, Brown University.

Brown University was founded in 1794 by John Brown and is 1/8 total Ivy Leagues located in Providence, Rhode Island, just an hour away from Boston Massachusetts.

However, with Brown's location you don't need to venture out to have fun you are in Providence after all so there's bound to be a lot of history to see there such as Benefit Street aka "Mile of History".

ree

Benefit Street is a mile-long street along the hillside between the river all the way to Brown University.

This street showcases architectural history of Providence Rhode Island and some of the attractions are Governor Stephen Hopkins' House, the Anthenaeum and John Brown's house (the founder of Brown University).

You can read the many stories about Benefit Street on the Mile Of History website or from a walking tour booklet you can access through the Providence Preservation Society.

You can also learn more about Providence history by taking a tour at Waterplace Park.

ree

Waterplace Park is only four minutes away from Brown University and is a must visit when in Providence.

One of the highlights of this park is 'WaterFire', a bonfire happening on the water twice a month between mid-May and late-November. The whole Waterplace Park and Riverwalk turns into a festival showcasing art and music which are all free.

However, if you're not lucky enough to be in Providence on one of those nights then you can still canoe on the river for prices starting at $20, or you can head to Roger Williams Park.

ree

Roger Williams Park is located 11 minutes away from Brown University and has a variety of things to do such as a zoo, botanical garden, the 1773 Betsy Williams Cottage, Museum of Natural History and a planetarium.

The Roger Williams Park Zoo differs from other zoos as you're not walking around looking at caged animals but instead learning about the animals and their habitats as you can come face to face with a snow leopard, giraffe, elephant, alligator, kangaroo and a red panda.

Then the botanical garden featured at the park holds the title as New England's largest display indoor garden with 12,000 sq ft of garden.

The park holds all of these awesome features in the 435 acres it has a perfect place to either start off your day or end the night.

However, catching a performance at the Providence Performing Arts Center is another great way to end your night too.

ree

The Providence Performing Arts Center is only five minutes away from Brown and is 93 years old.

Opening in 1928 and designed by George and C.W. Rapp of Chicago has showcased concerts and broadway musicals such as Hamilton since it's opening.

They currently have tickets up for their 2021-2022 season starting in October all the way through June 2022.

The theater also has a wide range of restaurants you can choose from, so you can catch the traditional "dinner and a movie", or you can choose from a restaurant outside the theater such as East Side Pockets, by CHOLE, Heng Thai & Rotisserie and Pokeworks.

ree

East Side Pockets is a Mediterranean restaurant located three minutes away from the university.

You can order delicious eats such as Falafel, vegetarian wraps, protein wraps, open face pies, soup, salads, Baklava, Tabouleh, Baba Ganoush, chicken wings and chicken fingers.

ree

by CHLOE is a vegan restaurant located five minutes away from Brown with location not only in the U.S. but in Canada and Europe too.

This restaurant offers cold-pressed juices, salads, mac & cheese with sweet potato-cheese instead of regular cheese, raw vanilla bean chia pudding, matcha kelp noodles, southwestern quinoa, burgers made with veggies instead of real meat and house made organic peanut butter dog bones for your doggy friend.

ree

Heng Thai & Rotisserie serves Thailand street food and is located only one minute away from the university's campus!

With it being so close you can easily grab you some crispy spring rolls, soup, larb kai salad, kai zapp, pad thai, heng fried rice, pineapple fried rice, noodles, yellow curry, green curry, pork chops and other foods on the vegan and gluten free menu.

ree

Pokeworks is located one minute away from Brown University and has 45 other locations across the U.S..

This restaurant is known for their signature delicacies such as Hawaiian Ahi Classic and Umami Ahi Classic. You can also create your own Poke bowl, burrito, or salad; choosing from protein such as tofu, salmon, shrimp chicken or tuna and then your toppings and sauces.
