After being closed for over a year, Six Flags Great America was finally allowed to reopen it's doors, or in this case gates to visitors on April 24 and I've had the luxury of going the day after on the 25, so I'll be sharing with you what to expect at this new amid-pandemic Great America.
First things first, entering the park has completely changed, you can't even get passed the parking monitor without showing your reservation first.
If you don't know how to book a reservation click here How to Make A Six Flags Reservation.
So you're going to show the parking monitor your reservation receipt and you'll be let into the parking lot of the park.
From there on you'll walk up to the entrance as usual but you'll have to go through this blue tent-like thingy and that's where you'll have you temper and bags checked, but you won't take off your bag, you'll just walk through the metal detector and from there you'll scan your ticket to get into the park as you'll normally do.
So now let's talk about once you're in the park, more importantly the rides, what is riding a roller coaster like at Great America now?
It's quite different, but not that different, believe it or not. Raging Bull is the only coaster I saw that was running full trains and of course rides like V2, Goliath, MaxxForce, Viper, and Batman were only running half a train, so people in every other row. However sometimes MaxxForce would only have like three people on a train and I'm just like what? So this was making the line move SUPER SLOW!
Also the downtime they would have to do where they sanitize the trains and then send them through their course, but every ride was doing that, so don't be alarmed thinking it's shut down, because it's not, it's just procedure, which is fine.
Also you HAVE to wear a mask when on the rides, they're very strict about that. My mask wasn't on during Raging Bull and they wouldn't even show me my picture, that's how serious they are, so always wear your mask when on the rides!
However other than that not much changed with the rides.
Now on to the food.
Six Flags now has it where you can order food online through the app and pick it up between these time intervals and a lot of restaurants were using that to shorten food lines, but it was confusing. Me and my mom tried using the system when ordering Strutters but the check out process was so confusing as we were trying to add on the other dining plans because we weren't going to pay for food when we have a plan, but it wouldn't let us.
Also indoor restaurants such as Mooseburger Lodge would only let you order through the app and you couldn't go inside for not one reason. Which I won't lie sucked because Mooseburger Lodge would've been good but the restaurant didn't pop up on the app for us to choose from even though we were standing right in front of it, so that sucked.
All I have to say is, for my first experience with mobile food ordering I was sadly disappointed, I was actually looking forward to trying the system.
So besides the time wasted on trying to order food and the cold weather, I actually had a good time at Great America and I'm looking forward to going back!
