Lou Malnati’s. I had it over what felt like 1000 times and I would still eat it no matter how many times I complain about my mom ordering Lou Malnati’s for dinner.
Opening on March 17th, 1971 in Lincolnwood IL, Lou Malnati’s is a pizzeria located in the Chicagoland area with others located in Indiana, Wisconsin, and Arizona. You can also enjoy some Lou's if you don't live in one of these areas by ordering online here at the Taste Of Chicago, which ships nationally, so you can enjoy a taste Chicago no matter where you are in the country.
This pizzeria is widely known for their, I’ll have to admit, sometimes delicious deep-dish pizza, where many believe it is better than Giordano’s. However, I am not one of them. Probably because I rarely have Giordano’s whereas I have Lou Malnati’s like it’s McDonald’s, mainly because I literally live down the street from one.
This popular Chicago pizzeria offers many options for you to choose such as:
Desserts include:
Italian ice
Tiramisu
Kinds of pasta:
Penne Ala Malnati (Cream and Romano cheese folded into their meat sauce topped with baked mozzarella)
Lasagna
Spaghetti
Penne
Salads:
House salad
Caesar salad
Malnati Salad (Romaine lettuce, tomatoes, black olives, mushrooms, Volpi salami bits, and gorgonzola cheese with Sweet Vinaigrette and romano cheese)
Chicken which you can either choose boneless or bone-in I guess? They come in the flavors of Buffalo, Honey BBQ, or Lemon Pepper.
They also offer garlic bread, three-cheese bread, and Lou’s Bruschetta.
However even with the millions of times, I’ve been there I’ve only tried the pizza, which does have gluten-free options. More specifically the deep-dish spinach/sausage custom pizza, yes you are able to create your own custom pizzas, and their thin crust sausage and cheese, so today that's what I'll be reviewing today.
Disclaimer: Pizza was pretty cold when I got it, so actual warm pizza will probably taste better than what I'm saying now.
Thin Crust Cheese: 4.5/10
Crust wasn't that good, taste plain
Sauce wasn't well flavored
Not bad but not really average either just okay
Could have higher score if pizza was warmer
Thin Crust Sausage: 6/10
Crust was solid, better than the cheese pizza
Tasted some type of flavoring in the sausage pizza
Sausage on pizza was good, taste like normal sausage
Same as cheese, could have higher score if pizza was warmer
Deep Dish Spinausage: 7/10
Crust was solid, better than the thin crust pizzas.
Sauce wasn't really good by itself
Cheese was very good well flavored
Spinach and sausage on pizza was layered
Could be better if pizza was warmer
Avergae: 5.8/10
This review could've had a higher rating if the pizza was warmer, but comparing it as both Giordano's and Lou's was both cold when trying the pizza, I would have to say Giordano's is the better pizza, and if you had to choose when coming to Chicago I would choose Gior's. However I would still recommend grabbing a slice of Lou Malnati's pizza if you have the option to, because it actually is better when warm, and I pretty sure it's excellent when fresh.
